What Is a Cap-and-Trim Fence?
On a standard privacy fence, the tops of the boards are left open. A cap-and-trim fence adds a horizontal cap board across the top of the posts and boards, with a trim board just below it. The result looks more like finished carpentry than a basic fence, and the cap covers the exposed end grain at the top of the boards.
Why Homeowners Choose It
- A finished, framed appearance that suits the front of the home
- A cap that covers the top end grain of the boards
- A clean line along the full length of the fence
- Works with staining or painting for a coordinated look
New Fences and Upgrades
We can build cap-and-trim into a new wood privacy fence. On an existing fence in good condition, cap and trim can often be added. If the posts or boards are failing, we will tell you whether repair or replacement makes more sense first.
