Common Gate Problems
- A gate that sags and drags on the ground
- A latch that no longer lines up
- Loose, bent or rusted hinges
- A leaning or rotted gate post
- Broken or warped gate boards
Why Gates Sag
A gate hangs its full weight on one post. If that post loosens or rots at the ground line, or the gate frame loses its shape, the gate drops and starts to drag. Fixing the gate itself is often not enough; the post usually needs attention too.
How We Repair or Replace a Gate
- Check the post. We test the gate post at the ground line and reset or replace it if needed.
- Square the frame. We repair or rebuild the frame and bracing so the gate holds its shape.
- Hinges and latch. We replace worn hardware and adjust the gate to swing freely and latch properly.
- Match the fence. New boards are matched to the existing fence as closely as we can.
New Gates
We build and hang new wood gates for new fences and existing ones, including wider gates for yard equipment. New gates are usually part of a wood privacy fence installation or fence replacement.
